Potty Training Challenge

It was time for me to face my biggest fear (in parenting, that is): potty training. Sure doesn't sound fun to anyone! Well, we bought a cute little potty at the beginning of the summer, hoping to get it over with while it was warm outside (and right before our apartment manager schedules yearly carpet cleaning for free ;) )...It didn't last long. The only success --if we can call it success! --was getting Eve out of diapers and into pull-ups, and that was a financial mistake (pull-ups are more expensive and there are less of them in a pack). Now that I have a less demanding schedule and that Eve's 2nd B-Day is around the corner, I set myself the goal to have her potty-trained by the 10th of October. Another motivational factor was that my neighbor and friend, Rachel, is also potty-training her son who's about the same age as Eve. That way, we decided to have our own little support group, and we've been phoning each other to share successes and failures, joys and frustrations. Rachel, you rock!
So we started on Monday, the worst day so far! Eve could sit on the potty for hours while I put in her Winnie the Pooh movie, but she refused to go. As soon as I had my back turned, she'd run off and have an accident on the carpet. That scenario went on ALL DAY LONG! I was so ready to give up; yesterday, same thing happened. After her nap, Levi didn't put on her underwear (she naps in pull-ups), so the program was on hold. After Levi left for work, I opted for another try. No results. I took Eve to the library and forgot she was only wearing underwear. Luckily, she had no accidents. She took a bath and I was about to put her pull-ups on when I thought I would give it another try. And we had our first VICTORY! I was beyond happy...after consideration, I realized how pathetic I was to make a fool out of myself dancing and clapping around a mini-toilet! Man, that shows how desperate I can be.
This morning, Eve got up at 8am and sat on her potty for 1 hour to no avail. I let her run around a little in her cute Strawberry Shortcake undie. Half an hour later, she started to show signs that she needed to go...it was the first time she actually was aware that she needed to go potty, so I took her by the hand and sat next to her, but still she wouldn't go. She repeated the same thing 3 times until she finally went...she earned a sucker and a few stickers for her achievement. And what do I get out of this? Just the satisfaction of not having to clean the carpet again. She seems to have gotten the hang of this now, but I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your encouragements everyone!

Yea!! I am glad she is making progress. Jacob goes sitting down. It's kind of a funny story... ask me about it later, I don't want to post it here. :)

I know exactly what you're going through, except that we're just now getting around to potty training Katie. The way you described it though, that's exactly how it's been for us. Sit on the potty for 30 minutes, go 2 minutes after getting off.

YAH for Eve! Don't get discouraged, at some point it will just click with her and you will be doing the happy dance all over your house =)
As for the pic of her on the potty, HA HA the look on her face is almost as priceless as it will be when shes grown up and she sees that pic for the first time!
I have a picture of me on my brothers motorcycle, at the age of 3, completely naked! My family has gotten MANY laughs at my expense on that one!

Oh, the nightmare. I SO do not look forward to that. I know what you mean about dancing and clapping for seemingly silly reasons. We all do it though! Good luck!
