So we don't have internet at home anymore...which is why we have not been posting anything for awhile. You probably guessed we're staying busy with getting ready to move to England and working on the thesis, which I plan to defend by the end of June.
On a serious note, Saturday night, I went to the grocery store to get some last minute items for Sunday and to my surprise, all of the parking entrances to our Smith's grocery store were blocked by police cars...nobody could go in or out. I knew it was quite serious because reporters were standing at the main entrance with cameras. Turns out there had been a shooting in the customer service section...a 35 year old man was caught shoplifting a 12-pack beer as he was reaching the exit. He got upset as two employees tried to take him to the back office...and they decided to call the police when he started being aggressive and physical. When the police got to the store, they noticed he had a gun on him which he took out. After attempting to use a spun gun to no avail, they warned him to drop his gun or else. 8-10 gun shots were heard, as all the customers and employees dropped to the floor. The shoplifter died on the scene...what a waste of a life...all that for shoplifting 12 cans of beer.

Wow! I cannot believe that happened in little ol' Provo--and I cannot believe you almost bore witness to it!
Anabelle, I'm so grateful you were not already in the store during that awful incident! That is such a scary but also sad story. I'm glad no one else in the store lost their life.
Good luck with your final preparations for your thesis defense and your move. Very exciting! We'll keep you in our prayers!
As Kathleen said, I'm so glad that nobody else was hurt (especially you!) in the incident, but that must've been quite upsetting to have witnessed. Have people gone totally crazy?? I wonder if that guy was on drugs or something, that just seems like such weird behavior. I'm glad you and your family are all okay!
I can't believe you guys are heading to England, that's so exciting! Cameron and I keep talking about going to Europe someday... When it finally happens, we'll have to get together!! :0)
Such scary stuff! Tom got there right after they had put up the police tape. So glad neither of you were there when it happened!
Oh my goodness! I didn't even hear about that-- how sad!
I am happy I found your blog! :)
